Hancock - What A Waste of a Good Idea!

So I saw Hancock this week. Was pretty excited about it, I really liked the idea - or at least, the idea the trailer lead me to believe to movie would be about.

A drunken, homeless superhero whom doesn’t really give a shit about anyone or anything.

Sounded fun to me.

And the first half of the movie was fun. Smith was funny, the story was moving along nicely, it had me. Then the “twist” came up and the movie went to shit, fast. As soon as the focal point moved from Hancock to Hancock and Angel the movie just slowed to shit. The story from then on was boring as hell and stupid and just ripped away any believability the movie had earnt before.

Both Theron and Bateman were annoying as hell. Theron just didn’t work for me on any level, Bateman at least had a few lines that he didn’t butcher the hell out of. Theron was merely the added boobs and mascara that every Hollywood movie seems to need these days.

Of course, the flaws i found doesn’t mean the movie as a whole was bad. The action was interesting and the jokes in the first half were great. It just let itself down big time with its story flaws and its PG-13 rating. A movie with a drunken homeless superhero who doesn’t give a shit should NOT be a PG-13 movie. I saw toddlers and babies in the audience, this movie should not be seen by them.

I’ll wait for DVD, in the hopes an R rated version comes along.
