Shit Written Down From My Head

Thoughts on books, music, movies and everything else.

Aww, shit! I done got mahself da’ BLUES!

Another Saturday, another music filled day lacking in productivity. Today I’m making the most out of my Rhapsody subscription by listening to some Blues.

Now, I’m not talking about the blues that everybody knows about. I won’t be listening to any B.B. King, Robert Cray, Muddy Waters, Stevie Ray Vaughan or even Joe Bonamassa and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. No, I’m delving deeper. I’m going where not enough people go. The lesser known performers, the new kids on the block and the oldies that never hit the big time.

So, I started out with a random recommendation from Rhapsody, from its new releases section of Modern Blues.

Oli Brown’s debut album, Open Road, what can I say about it? This kid has it, man. This is some good blues-rock fun, definitely recommended!

Next up Craig Erickson’s Rare Tracks album. Recommended to me by Filter.com for fans of Joe Bonamassa. Two tracks in and I’m really enjoying it, the guy can jam and he can sing too!

Lined up after that I have Back Door Slam’s album, Roll Away, which from the write up sounds VERY promising. After that, I have Tinsley Ellis, Live Highwayman.

So, its going to be another bluesy Saturday. But what other blues guitarists are out there that I should listen to? I must have more!
