Bands, Past & Present, I’d Love To See Live

I was a late comer to the wonders of live music. My first show was The Mars Volta at The Greek Theater in Berkeley, CA. I went 20 years through life without going to a live show. I only really started listening to music at age 17 or so. Now I listen to all kinds of shit, from the 60s to present.

Over those years there have been some fantastic bands, creating music the likes of which was never heard before or since.

Over the last three years, I’ve seen the following bands (maybe missing a few that I forget…):

Buckethead
Dredg x 2
Porcupine Tree x 2
Primus
Les Claypool
The Mars Volta
Wishbone Ash
Nine Inch Nails
The Magnetic Fields
Roger Waters
Peaches (Opening for NiN)
Tony Levin Band (Opening for PT)
Dream Theater
Ozric Tentacles! (:D)
Muse
Weird Al Yankovic
Zappa Plays Zappa

Now, some of these shows have been awesome, some were okay but all of them were better than sitting at home listening to their albums.

So, on to the bands, past and present, I hope/wish to see/could see:

Pink Floyd
Now I’ve seen Roger Waters and that was a fantastic show. But I want to see Pink Floyd, the real deal. Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason - with Snowy White and whoever else is needed to recreate the awesomeness that was.

King Crimson
Yeah, I know they are touring the East Coast this year, but I can’t fucking afford that.

Frank Zappa
I have all the DVDs. I have a good percentage of his complete catalogue. I have a shed load of bootlegs. But one thing I will never get to claim is that I saw the great man live. Zappa Plays Zappa was an awesome experience, with past members joining in. Dweezil did an awesome job filling his Father’s shoes, but, he ain’t no Frank.

Jimi Hendrix
Ain’t nobody playing like that today.

Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble
The man, the legend. I would give my family away for a chance to see them live. :(

Joe Bonamassa
This one I can actually do! I’m a huge fan of this man’s playing and his voice. I’ve been listening to his CDs a lot recently and I just can’t get enough. One of the few players out there trying something worth doing in Blues.

Robert Randolph & The Family Band
Another I hope to rectify soon. The man is just awesome. When I first heard him play on Eric Clapton’s Crossroads DVD (the first one) I’d never heard anything quite like it before. I’ve never seen anyone have so much fun on stage and the music! Oh the music!

Anathema
Anathema are one of those bands I forget about for a while, then come back to and play non-stop for weeks. I’ve been throwing around A Fine Day to Exit and Natural Disaster recently and I just love them both - would be great to catch them live eventually.

Joe Satriani
Specific tour, Super Colossal - awesome album. His latest was meh and a few before that were too. But Super Colossal just did it for me. Made Of Tears is one of the most beautiful guitar songs ever written, only beaten out by Too Many Humans by Buckethead and a few others!

Djam Karet
Djam Karet are one of the greatest bands ever, their music is just indescribably awesome. Check them out.

Led Zeppelin
For obvious reasons ;)

The Doors
Five To One and Roadhouse Blues are super fantastic songs that I’ll never stop loving. And the rest of their works aren’t too shabby either!

Tomoyasu Hotei
The giant Japanese guitarist. Brought to western ears by the awful, terrible, shit, shit, shitty movie Kill Bill. But, if it weren’t for that movie, I may not have heard the awesome Battle Without Honor Or Humanity. That album is brilliant.

And that is about all I can think of right now, so, if anyone wants to buy me tickets to one of these shows or invent a time machine and get tickets from shows in the past, that would be much appreciated ;)
